1. All protein are the Same
Proteins are of different kinds – whey, casein, albumin and isolates, hydrolysates, concentrates, etc. Whey gets released absorbed quickly in the body when compared to casein and this makes it ideal for intra workout and post workout. They can be obtained from vegetarian and non vegetarian sources. Non-vegetarian protein sources are known as complete protein as they provide most of the amino acids required by the body.
2. High amounts of protein will damage the Kidneys
An average man requires about 1g protein/kg bodyweight. Athletes require around 1.2-1.4g protein/kg bodyweight and Bodybuilders require even more - 1.4-1.8g protein/kg body weight. There will be no kidney damage in healthy individuals unless they have some renal issue or medical history.
3. Protein will make women look Ripped
Whey protein is a complete protein which is essential post workout to prevent muscle breakdown. This doesn’t mean that women will look ripped after consuming protein supplements. Women have low levels of testosterone which prevents them from looking big and muscular. Whey will help women look toned and fit.
4. Only Bodybuilders need Protein
Everyone needs protein in their daily diet. Without protein, athletes will tend to lose muscle mass. Any sport or activity over a period of time will result in muscle loss if sufficient protein is not taken through the diet. This raises the need for whey protein for athletes.
5. Whey protein is not natural
This is not true. Whey is made from dairy! Milk has two protein components namely whey and casein. Casein is the curds and whey is the liquid that is left behind when coagulated. Whey is a natural source of protein and is easily digestible.
